Wherever we go we can't help but see banners. Banners are used by different businesses and organisations to attract our attention for different reasons using different methods. However with banners there is often more than meets the eye.
Placing Your Banner
hen you have a new event or business to promote one of the most interesting and fulfilling tasks is to design your own advertising material. Depending on what you are trying to promote different methods will be more effective. Whether you go for TV or radio spots, newspaper ads, flyers or signs and banners will make a large difference.
After splashing out on a good design for your banners and having them run off it can be easy to daydream of all the following success.
However anyone who has got somewhere in business will tell you that it takes a lot of careful planning and consideration at all stages of development. Once you have a good banner it has to be placed as no matter how good the banner is its not going to achieve anything sitting on your desk or workbench.
Your choice of locations for advertising may actually be more limited than you initially thought. Depending on where you are wishing to advertise or display banners your local council or government authority may have restrictions. Some authorities may make allowances for community and charitable events in public places and not be as lenient for corporate or promotional banners.
This may work in your advantage if you are planning an event or function but not if you are advertising a regular business. If you are planning an event or function ask yourself if it is aimed at the community or if you could change something about it to appeal to the local community and council in general.
Sponsorship
Sponsorship has become a popular practice in promotion for a long time. The main reason for its success is the fact that it is so mutually beneficial for all parties involved.
A sure fire way of getting people to see your banners is to sponsor a local team. Conduct a little market research and find out who's popular. It may be a local football or cricket team or maybe your area and your clientele are interested in more alternative events such as a local skatepark and competitions.
If you sponsor a local team you can put your logo on their uniform and banners around the pitch or grounds. Likewise if you are advertising at a local event such as skating competitions or a local music festival you will probably be able to hang up banners or give out promotional material. If your product or service is relevant you may be able to set up a stand either selling products or taking names for mailing lists and displaying promotional material for local services.
If you are advertising a new business you could hire a local venue to use for a launch party. You could invite people from the local scene who are related to your business or the possible implications of your business. After all there is no point thinking small if you want to make a name for yourself. Speak to the owners of the venue and discuss their policy for private hire and promotional events. If they are supportive of the idea then you can enquire about hanging a banner on or around the premises. This way patrons of the venue can see your banner and see your logo whenever they visit.
